Our Relationship As Children Of Immigrants With Our Family Abroad

I was born in America. Growing up, I traveled often to China to visit my relatives. My parents had hoped that it would bring us closer and that I would learn the culture and language. My relatives took care of me when my parents had other obligations and raised me as their own. But as my responsibilities piled, as I spend more time in America, assimilating into the American culture, I lost a familiarity in our communication. This fading connection. They had left impressions on my life, fleeting but present. This fragility in the American Dream. Growing up Asian American.
